Ideas for an Irish Football Party

The Irish national football team - "The Boys in Green" - are best-known for "punching above their weight", producing exceptional results when most people don't expect them to, and for their fanatical fun-loving supporters.

Now, the simplest way to throw an Irish football party is to invite your mates round, order in a crate of Guinness, and enjoy. And there's nothing at all wrong with that! That's how many Irish supporters will be watching the big matches in bars all over the country, and indeed the world. However, if you want to make a bit more of a party of it, hopefully some of the ideas below will be helpful.

Food for an Irish Football Party

Many first-time visitors to Ireland are surprised by the quality and variety of food available. Seafood in particular is great and widely available, and although many traditional recipes may rely heavily on potatoes, there is SO much more to Irish cuisine, and much of the pub food available is both affordable and delicious.

Drink for an Irish Football Party

There are plenty of options drinks-wise if you're throwing an Irish football party:

Firstly and most obviously, there's Guinness , regarded by most as Ireland's national drink.

Also popular in Irish pubs if you don't fancy a pint of the dark stuff is the cool refreshing Magners Irish Cider .

Then of course there's Irish whiskey, of which the two most famous brands are probably Jamesons and Bushmills .

And finally, as if we could forget, there's Baileys Irish Cream and all the cocktail options that go with it.
