Facts & Figures
Cameroon derives its name from early Portuguese explorers, who dubbed the Wouri river the "Rio dos Camaroes", meaning "River of prawns". Since then, Cameroon has been heavily influenced by both English and French settlers. Geographically, the country is quite diverse, with rain forests, savanna and desert, which are represented by the green, red and yellow vertical stripes of the nation's flag. As a footballing nation, Cameroon have in the past made up for their lack of trophies with a reputation for entertainment! While not always the most disciplined of teams, their enthusiasm for the game won them many friends, and who can forget the great Roger Milla and his famous goals and subsequent celebrations?!
